Aston Villa are finding their feet under Steven Gerrard and look an altogether different proposition in the Premier League than they did in the final weeks of former manager Dean Smith’s reign. The Villains have won four of their six matches since the ex-Rangers’ man arrived, losing only to the top two teams in the league in Liverpool and Manchester City.
After a 0-2 win at Norwich City last time out, Villa will come into this game with some confidence and a win could lift them to as high as eighth place in the table, with European qualification a distinct possibility if they can continue to improve under Gerrard.
Chelsea are doing all they can to try and remain within touching distance of Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table. The Citizens are currently six points clear of the Blues and the Reds three points clear in second and given the relentlessness of those two sides in recent years, it’ll be difficult for the Londoners to keep up over the coming weeks and months.
Worryingly for boss Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea have managed just one win in their last four matches in the Premier League, losing away to West Ham and being held to draws by both Everton and Wolves, albeit with a depleted squad. Can they bounce back to winning ways on the road on Sunday?
Aston Villa vs Chelsea: Match Stats
Aston Villa are much improved under Gerrard so far and although they’ve lost twice, both of those games have been against very strong opposition. Chelsea meanwhile haven’t been themselves of late and we’re surprised to see so much value in the home win or draw double chance bet.
Although Thomas Tuchel has an arsenal of creative attacking midfielders in his squad, Croatian Mateo Kovacic is leading the way for assists this season with a total of five in the Premier League. We fancy him to supply an assist for one of his team-mates here.

Chelsea eased to a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture between these two sides earlier in the season thanks in no small part to a Romelu Lukaku brace. The Blues also beat the Villains in the EFL Cup the following week, although they needed penalties on that occasion following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.
