Celtic vs Livingston: Predictions
The chances of Celtic retaining their title, and securing a 10th consecutive league triumph are slim to none, as Rangers are the runaway leaders of the Scottish Premiership. Celtic are already 21 points behind their bitter rivals and even if they were to win their three games in hand, the gap appears to be too large to bridge, though the Bhoys will want to keep fighting until it’s mathematically impossible.
However, Celtic’s already hard task has had another layer of difficulty added in recent weeks, with the club currently unable to field a full-strength team. What was essentially a second XI were held by Hibernian late on on Monday and they will get another outing this weekend, led by Gordon Strachan.
They face tough opposition this weekend in Livingston who currently sit in fifth, seven points behind fourth-placed Hibs in what should be the final Europa Conference League qualifying spot. Livingston closed that gap on Hibs at the start of the year with a 3-0 win, truly putting their poor start to the season behind them.
Having only previously played in Europe once (when they reached the first round of the 2002/03 UEFA Cup), Livingston will be eager to add another continental campaign when the tertiary competition has its inaugural season in 2021/22. And they may not have a better chance to do so against Celtic this weekend.

Celtic vs Livingston: Match Stats
Celtic’s situation alone may have counted against them in a normal game, but this weekend they face a Livingston side in fantastic form. David Martindale’s side have won their last eight games across all competitions since the Scot replaced Gary Holy as manager in November, initially on an interim role before being given the job until the end of the season. Livingston also have the joint-best form in the Scottish Premiership over the past six games, winning all six matches alongside Rangers.
A big part of Livingston’s eight-match winning run has been their defence, which has improved massively since Martindale took over. Livingston have conceded just three goal in their past eight matches, no more than one in a single game, with five clean sheets. Celtic have only failed to score on three occasions this season but if any team can stop them, it’s this current Livingston one.
19 September 2020 – Celtic 3-2 Livingston – Premiership
4 March 2020 – Livingston 2-2 Celtic – Premiership
23 November 2019 – Celtic 4-0 Livingston – Premiership
6 October 2019 – Livingston 2-0 Celtic – Premiership
6 April 2019 – Celtic 0-0 Livingston – Premiership
Unsurprisingly, Celtic have dominated this fixture with 20 wins in 25 games, including a win in September, compared to Livingston’s sole victory. However, that victory did come as recent as last season, a 2-0 victory at the start of the campaign. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Wednesday
