Burnley made a perhaps bold call in giving Kompany his first managerial job in English football after their relegation from the Premier League, but the Belgian has impressed as he tries to get the club back up to the top flight at the first time of asking. The Clarets are currently fourth in the Championship after 11 games and have lost just one match so far this season, beaten 1-0 by Watford in their third match.
However, it hasn’t been complete plain sailing. One criticism for Kompany and Burnley will be that they have drawn too many games, with six stalemates on their record alongside four wins. Burnley come into this came off the back off a draw against Cardiff, their third such result in their past four matches, only breaking the streak with a 2-1 win over Bristol City.
Stoke have won just one fewer match than Burnley this season and are only six points back but they sit down in 17th, two points clear of the relegation zone. It’s been a relatively tough start for Alex Neil’s side who have already lost five matches this season and are among the Championship’s lowest scorers.
One of the Potters’ biggest problems this season has been an inability to build on victories, dropping points in the very next match after winning. Their most recent victory was a 3-0 win over Hull which they followed up by drawing with QPR. Last time out Stoke suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at home to Watford, who had made the big call to sack Rob Edwards and appoint Slaven Bilic just days before.

Connor Taylor dropped down to the bench for Stoke at the weekend but could return to the starting XI at Turf Moor. Should he start, Taylor’s job will be to help unsettle the Burnley attack and the Englishman has already received four yellow cards in 10 Championship appearances this season, including two in each of his past two starts.
Burnley have been very good in front of goal this season, with only two teams scoring more than them in the Championship, but that hasn’t been the case for Stoke. The Potters have scored just 11 goals this season and are under-performing against their xG by 2.42.
