Burnley vs Southampton: Predictions
Burnley and Southampton will look to register their first points of the new Premier League season when they clash at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.
Sean Dyche’s men enjoyed a positive 2019/20 campaign, finishing 10th on 54 points, but suffered a 4-2 defeat in their opening match against Leicester City at the weekend. That said, the Clarets showed more than enough in an attacking sense to suggest they may be in for another strong season, while we don’t expect Burnley to leak four goals per game moving forwards.
Southampton, meanwhile, have already played their first two games of the new season but succumb to 1-0 and 5-2 defeats against Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, while they also crashed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Brentford.
However, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has been in much worse positions than this and last season, he demonstrated his superb dugout prowess to drag the Saints out of a relegation battle and into a comfortable 11th-place finish. In Danny Ings, the south coast side have one of the league’s most feared marksmen, so Burnley had better be on their guard.

Burnley vs Southampton: Team Stats
With both sides looking to notch their first points of the new season, this match takes on quite a large amount of significance even at this early stage.
One thing we can be relatively certain of is goals. In their three combined Premier League games so far in 2020/21, Burnley and Southampton have scored four and conceded 10, with both looking threatening in attack and neither convincing at the back.
The last two meetings between these two — both Burnley wins — have seen three goals, while Ings already has two goals to his name this season after notching 22 in the Premier League last season.
After a five-game run where neither side scored more than one goal against each other, the goals have started to flow in this fixture, although mainly in favour of Burnley, who have run out 3-0 and 2-1 winners over Southampton in their previous two meetings. Could the form of Ings tip the scales against his former employers?
