Chelsea vs Brighton: Predictions
Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side have been handed a golden opportunity to work their way back into the top four of the Premier League following West Ham’s shock defeat against Newcastle United. A win for the Blues on Tuesday would see them leapfrog the Hammers and open a two-point gap on David Moyes’ side.
As for Brighton, Newcastle’s recent rise to form following their 3-0 defeat on the south coast to Graham Potter’s men has meant the Magpies have pulled Brighton back into the relegation scrap. Potter’s side still hold a six-point gap over 18th-placed Fulham, however, points on Tuesday would surely all but guarantee them Premier League safety.
The Blues come into the game on the back of their progression to the semi-final of the Champions League after their 2-1 aggregate victory over Porto and then their progression to the FA Cup final after beating Manchester City on the weekend. With only two defeats since Tuchel’s arrival at the club, it will be a tough ask for Potter’s side to grind out a result on Tuesday.
Brighton suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat earlier in the season against Chelsea when Frank Lampard was still at the helm for the Londoners. However, under Tuchel, Chelsea have shown a cutting edge under the German and will be looking to banish the memories from their last home Premier League game which saw them humiliated at the hands of the struggling West Brom.
