Brighton will be over the moon after recording their first ever win in their history at Old Trafford on the opening weekend, a 2-1 win in what was Erik ten Hag’s first Premier League game in charge. The Seagulls impressed, with Danny Welbeck causing United’s defence all sorts of problems and providing an assist, Moises Caicedo bossing the midfield, winning more tackles (4) and making more interceptions (3) than any other player, and match winner Pascal Groß scoring his fifth and sixth Premier League goals against the Red Devils.
Graham Potter’s side will not let that result get to their heads though and will be looking it to follow it up with a positive result against a Newcastle side that they are unbeaten against in the Premier League at the Amex (W2 D3).
Like Brighton, Newcastle also kicked off their 2022/23 campaign with a win against newly promoted Nottingham Forest. The Magpies peppered the Forest goal, having 23 shots and 10 shots on target against the newcomers, which was just the fifth time they had registered 23+ shots and the third time they had 10+ shots on target in a Premier League game since the beginning of the 2016/17 season.
Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron (both 12) recorded the most touches in the opposition box during the opening weekend, while Bruno Guimaraes also shone yet again in the Newcastle midfield. The Brazilian has won more duels (111), made more tackles (45) and won more fouls (38) than any other Premier League player since he made his debut for the Geordies and the former Lyon man is looking like a bargain for his new side.
