Brentford vs Newcastle: Betting tips, predictions, odds & match preview
Brentford are hoping to display their Premier League credentials as they take on top-tier Newcastle in an intriguing EFL Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night.
Brentford vs Newcastle: Predictions
Brentford have hopes of finally reaching the Premier League this season having come as close as the Championship Play-off Final last term. The Bees have gone 13 games unbeaten in all competitions to rise up to 4th in the second-tier table, but attention switches to the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
Having already beaten three Premier League sides on this run in the shape of Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham, Thomas Frank’s men will be in high spirits as they look to overcome Newcastle at the Brentford Community Stadium on Tuesday night and set themselves up for a two-legged semi-final, with another trip to Wembley the potential prize on offer.
Newcastle United have not had much luck in cup competitions in recent years. In fact, this is the first time since 2016/2017 that they’ve progressed beyond their first tie in the EFL Cup and they’ve beaten Blackburn Rovers, Morecambe and Newport County (the latter on penalties) to reach this stage.
Although it’s been a frustrating week following a 5-2 away defeat to Leeds United and a 1-1 draw with a Fulham side that had gone down to ten men, boss Steve Bruce will be fairly happy with his side’s current position of 12th in the table, meaning the team can afford to take this EFL Cup Quarter Final very seriously with a view to breaking the long-running trophy duck at St James’ Park.

Brentford vs Newcastle: Match Stats
Ivan Toney’s shot map in the Championship this season.
Brentford’s games have burst into life in the second-half in a few occasions of late. Both goals in their 1-1 draw with Watford last week were scored after half-time, whereas three of the four scored in their 1-3 victory at Nottingham Forest were scored after the 80 minute mark.
Eight of Newcastle’s 13 Premier League games so far this term have seen more goals scored after the half-time whistle than before – including five of the seven scored in that defeat at Elland Road at the hands of Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds last week.
Ivan Toney will have a point to prove in this game. The striker was never given much of a chance to shine in three years at St James’ Park, but he’s already racked up 16 goals in just 20 league appearances since joining Brentford in the summer.

Newcastle have won the last six meetings between these two teams in all competitions. The last meetings came in the Magpies’ Championship-winning 2016/2017 campaign and the last meeting in this competition came in 2001, when a Craig Bellamy extra-time hat-trick secured the win for the Tynesiders.
