Placed in a 10-team group altogether, just four CONMEBOL nations are guaranteed to make the World Cup each time, making it one of the toughest qualifying systems around. Brazil are one of two teams to have already secured their spot in Qatar with a handful of games remaining, still unbeaten after 14 matches. The serial World Cup winners have managed 11 wins in qualifying so far, only dropping points in draws against Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador, while scoring more and conceding fewer than any other side.
Things aren’t so good for Paraguay, who are looking increasingly likely of missing the World Cup unless they win all of their remaining fixtures. With three games left to play Paraguay are second from bottom in the qualifying group and seven points behind fourth-placed Peru, having won just two of their 15 matches – fewer than any other team. There is also a six-point gap between Paraguay and Uruguay in the inter-confederation play-off spot, which was extended by Luis Suarez’s solitary goal in the clash between the two sides last week.

Despite scoring 28 goals across their 14 matches so far, averaging two per game, Brazil go into this match without a real attacking threat. Neymar, Richarlison and Roberto Firmino are all not involved in the current international squad, having combined to score 13 goals in World Cup qualifying.
Brazil have been pretty ruthless in their campaign to reach Qatar and Paraguay are unlikely to provide much opposition. Paraguay are the lowest scorers in the current CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign, netting just nine goals in their 15 games so far.
