Bournemouth vs Cardiff: Predictions
Although there is still a long way to go in the Championship season, this could be a crucial game for both Bournemouth and Cardiff in their play-off hopes. Bournemouth currently hold the advantage over Cardiff, occupying the final play-off spot in their quest to immediately return to the Premier League.
But it hasn’t been a smooth ride. The Cherries sacked Jason Tindall at the start of the month for a poor run of form that had left them down in sixth, having been second for most of December and in an automatic promotion spot. Jonathan Woodgate has since come in to replace him, but Bournemouth were handed their first defeat under the former Middlesbrough manager, beaten 2-1 by QPR at the weekend.
That defeat opened up the door for Cardiff City to close the gap on the Cherries to three points and Mick McCarthy’s side could leapfrog their hosts with a win by two or more goals on Wednesday. Cardiff’s position just outside the play-off spot comes as a result of an excellent run of form, in which they have won five consecutive Championship matches, rising from 13th to seventh.
A win for either side this week would see them take control of their play-off destiny, while the other will be left playing catchup with an ever-growing chasing pack.

Although four of their past five wins came against teams in the bottom half of the Championship table, Cardiff are the division’s form team right now and it’s hard to look past them getting victory number six here, building on their momentum. However, even in their slow start to life under Woodgate, Bournemouth have started to find the net and could do well against a Cardiff side that have conceded 33 time so far this season.
If Cardiff are to get the win, they’ll be hoping top scorer Keiffer Moore is on form. The Welsh striker has 14 Championship goals so far this season, nine more than any other player at the club and enough to leave in him the top five among the rest of the division. Moore is in good form too, scoring six goals in his past seven Championship matches.
