Blackpool and QPR are spiralling towards an uncomfortable few months in the Championship as the race to avoid relegation heats up. The hosts have won just once in their last 19 games and are currently 22nd in the table, while the travelling Londoners remain winless in 2023, last claiming three points before Christmas.
Now under the guidance of Mick McCarthy, The Tangerines will be hoping his experience can help navigate them to calmer waters, but it’s been an inauspicious start to his tenure so far. Appointed in mid-January, Blackpool remain deep in relegation trouble having won just once in nine under the Irish coach.
QPR were looking up rather than down at the start of the season, punching above their means under former coach Michael Beale, who upped sticks mid-season to rejoin Rangers in Scotland. Callum Connolly’s industry will be key if Blackpool are to get anything from this game, but his tenacious nature has often led to a fair few indiscretions. In fact, Connolly has committed the third-most fouls (48) of any defender in the Championship this season. He will need to temper that energy on Tuesday night without hindering his tackling output.
As for who might do the business for the hosts, Jerry Yates has bagged nine goals this campaign, four of which have come aerially. Only the Championship’s leading scorer Chuba Akpom (six) has netted more goals from his head than Yates (four). The QPR defence will need to watch the looped balls into their own box.

When these two clubs met at Shepherd’s Bush back in August, there were two different managers in the dugout, with Beale leading QPR out at Loftus Road and Michael Appleton wielding the tactics board for Blackpool.
