It’s not too long ago that Blackburn were top of the Championship with three wins from their opening three games, enjoying their start to life under Jon Dahl Tomasson. But they haven’t had the best of runs since. Starting with a defeat to then-struggling Reading, Blackburn have lost four of their past five Championship matches to slump down to seventh only managing to beat Blackpool at the end of August.
The manner of the defeats haven’t been good either, with back-to-back 3-0 reverses against Reading and Sheffield United, a 1-0 loss to Stoke and then a 3-2 defeat at home to Bristol City which saw Rovers go 2-0 and 3-1 down, only reducing the deficit to one in injury time. However, Blackburn will be hoping to build on the positives of Ben Brereton Diaz scoring in that defeat to Bristol City, with the Chilean staying at the club having been linked with a move away in the summer transfer window.
One point and one place above Blackburn in the Championship table are Watford who, under Rob Edwards’ guidance, are looking to secure an immediate return to the Premier League. The Hornets have had an okay start to life back in the Championship but go into this match in fairly underwhelming start, winning just one of their past five matches.
After two wins and a draw from their opening three games, Watford have now drawn three and lost one of their past five, only beating Middlesbrough at the end of August. The defeat, their sole league loss of the season, game in a 3-2 thriller at home to QPR in which they had twice equalised after going a goal down only to fail at the third attempt. Watford also bowed out of the EFL Cup during that run, losing to MK Dons in the second round.

Blackburn vs Watford match stats
While Blackburn and Watford aren’t among the worst goalscorers in the Championship, they haven’t been the best in front of goal. Watford have only scored more than once in two league games this season, while Blackburn have failed to score three times.
These two sides may be shy in front of goal but they are not scared of a tackle, good and bad. So far this season Blackburn have received 18 yellow cards, with only three sides being shown more. Watford are one yellow card back on 17 but have also received a red card, with Hassane Kamara sent off in the 1-0 win over Burnley last month.
