Birmingham had to settle for a point in midweek when they held Watford to a 1-1 draw at this ground. The result continues a mixed start to the season for the second city side who have one win, two draws and one defeat. Their matches have been tight and low-scoring producing six goals in four.
At home, the Blues have struggled in recent times winning just two of their previous nine although they have looked better this season. It is four from two matches here in the 2022/23 campaign with a defeat of Huddersfield and that draw with Watford. Eight of the last 12 goals they have conceded in front of their own fans have come after the interval.
Wigan have had a week off following the postponment of their midweek fixture which was supposed to be against Coventry. It is three played and three draws for the Lancashire side with points against Bristol City, Preston and Norwich. It took a couple of games but their top scorer last season Will Keane got off the marks last weekend and will hope this is the start of a good spell of form.
Away from the DW Stadium, the Latics have played one league game that was a good point at Norwich and a disappointing defeat to Fleetwood in the League Cup. The visitors will have happy memories of their last trip here winning 3-2 in January 2020. It stretched their unbeaten run at St Andrew’s to three.
Birmingham vs Wigan Match Stats
Neither has side has started in great goalscoring form with Birmingham blanking in two of four and just netting three times. Wigan have scored just two times (all be it from three matches) and this could be another low-scoring one. This could be a low-scoring one so backing both teams to score no makes sense.
Sticking on the theme going with the fixture to have under 1.5 goals also appeals. This already would have paid in two of four for Birmingham while the visitors have already played out a goalless draw.
