When Vincent Kompany took charge of Burnley in the summer there was some uncertainty about what the Belgian could do in English football as manager. Although he conquered the country as a player with Manchester City, Kompany hadn’t really turned heads during his managerial stint with Anderlecht. But he has started life back in England in fantastic fashion.

Burnley went into the midweek round of fixtures joint-top of the Championship, level on points with Sheffield United but leading on goal difference. After gaining four points from their opening two matches, Burnley did lose their third game of the season 1-0 to Watford but since that away defeat the Clarets have gone unbeaten in 11 in the league with five wins and six draws. The draws may be slightly disappointing for some Burnley fans, but Kompany has the Clarets on the up.

Although they sit 15th in the Championship, Birmingham aren’t doing too badly either as they look to move away from the relegation battles of recent years. The Blues are just five points outside the play-off spots in what is a very tight table as things stand with five wins and four draws from their opening 14 matches.

Birmingham go into this match off the back of two consecutive wins over Bristol City and Hull City, ending a three-match winless run. However, things haven’t been smooth for Birmingham this season and they will be wary of slipping as they did earlier in the campaign in a five-match winless run which included four defeats.
