With 12 games left to go in the Primeira Liga campaign, Benfica are building a healthy lead at the top of the table as they look to win the title for the first time since 2018/19. The Eagles are currently eight points clear ahead of second-placed Porto and have dropped points in just three of their 22 league matches so far this season.
Benfica returned from the World Cup break in defeat to Braga and then drew with Sporting CP after a win over Portimonense, but since the Lisbon Derby they have been perfect. Roger Schmidt’s side have now won their past six league games and also made a good start to the last 16 of the Champions League by beating Club Brugge.
Famalicao, meanwhile, already look to be done for the season. After 22 matches played, Famalicao are 10 points outside the European qualification places and 11 clear of the relegation play-off place. However, they are slowly making their way up the table.
After a terrible start to the campaign which saw Rui Pedro Silva replaced by Joao Pedro Sousa, Famalicao still struggled to find form and went into the World Cup break winless in three. They returned with two victories before a run of just one win in five. But, two wins in their past two matches have given Famalicao something to cheer about of late.
