Bayern Munich vs Cologne: Predictions
Hansi Flick’s treble winners suffered their third Bundesliga defeat of the campaign when Adi Hutter’s high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt edged a 2-1 encounter at the Waldstadion. That loss has closed the gap between themselves in first and RB Leipzig in second to just two points.
That result followed on from a 3-3 draw at home to Arminia Bielefeld and means the Bavarians have now lost twice as many Bundesliga games in 2021 (two) than they did across the whole of 2020 (one). Flick will be desperate to get back to winning ways domestically and avoid a third straight winless game.
With Julian Nagelsmann’s Red Bulls closely clinging to their coattails in the race for this season’s Meisterschale, three points against Cologne is essential. This will be the 100th meeting between these two clubs in German professional football and is a club Flick knows very well, having represented the Billy Goats as a player between 1990 and 1993.
The carnival club remain just three points above the relegation play-off position and in need of a big result to put some distance between themselves and danger; but they can take solace knowing that Bayern have lost more Bundesliga home games to them than they have against any other side.

Bayern Munich vs Cologne: Match Stats
Despite a slight blip in the past two games, Bayern remain on course to retain the title, and in possible record-breaking fashion too. As it stands the Bavarians have notched 62 Bundesliga goals this term, a total only bettered at this stage of a campaign in 1973/74 (63).
The lead protagonist in that department has of course been Robert Lewandowski, who has a quite incredible 26 goals in just 21 games. To put into context the sheer volume of his scoring output this term: that tally is at least eight more than any other player across Europe’s top five divisions.
