The meeting between the two sides last Thursday provided a Europa League classic as Young Boys ran out 4-3 victors. The Swiss hosts opened up a shock 3-0 lead over the Germans by half time, but Leverkusen quickly drew level following the break. However, Theoson Siebatcheu netted with just minutes to go to regain Young Boys’ advantage ahead of their trip to Germany.

Leverkusen are now on a disappointing three-game winless run. Peter Bosz’s side were leading the Bundesliga table earlier in the season, however, have since dropped to fifth place and 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Patrik Schick led the second-half comeback for Leverkusen with two goals in the space of just three minutes and despite the defeat, the German’s carry three valuable away goals back to the BayArena for Thursday’s second-leg.

Thursday’s visitors extended their lead at the top of the Swiss Super League to 18 points on Sunday as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over Servette and they will be hoping to carry their incredible run of domestic form over to Germany as they aim to make their slim advantage count in Leverkusen.

Leon Bailey will have to pick up from his impressive form seen in the Europa League group stages which saw the winger score on five occasions and grab two assists. The 23-year-old has been a huge part of Leverkusen’s early success this season but will have to rediscover that form if he hopes to drag Leverkusen into the next round of the competition.

Despite impressing last week, conceding three quick goals in the second-half will concern the Young Boys faithful but they will be hoping their side can replicate their stunning start in front of goal which was demonstrated in the opening 45 minutes.
