Aston Villa vs West Ham: Predictions
Dean Smith’s side bounced back from their disappointing 3-2 defeat away to Burnley with an impressive 1-0 victory away to Southampton on the weekend. Ross Barkley’s first-half header proved enough to clinch all three points for the visitors on the south coast. However, Villa suffered a late scare as Danny Ings converted late on, only to have the goal disallowed for a marginal offside.
West Ham have surprised many this season, the Hammers currently sit fifth in the league table, despite suffering a defeat last time out. The 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday had a feeling of a missed opportunity about it as West Ham failed to cause a makeshift Liverpool defence any real problems as the Reds strolled to all three points.
Both sides have surpassed expectations this season, however, this game offers a huge opportunity for both sides to indicate which way the remainder of their season will pan out. A win for either would put them in a great position going forward, but a defeat could leave either side having lost ground on the teams around them.
Ollie Watkins broke his goal drought recently but all eyes will be on West Ham’s Tomas Soucek who has scored seven goals this season in the Premier League from his midfield position – making him their joint-top scorer.

Aston Villa vs West Ham: Match Stats
Matty Cash has received the most yellow cards out of any player from Villa this season with five. The 23-year-old was at the centre of controversy on the weekend after Southampton believed they had a certain penalty following the ball hitting Cash clearly on the arm, however, the appeal was denied by VAR.
Soucek has impressed this season with his seven-goal return in the league and the Czech international scored twice against Crystal Palace just over a week ago. Three of his seven league goals have come as headed shots on goal and the midfielder will always cause a threat from set-pieces in the opposition penalty area.

The recent meetings between these two sides have been close with two of the past three ending in a draw. With three valuable points on the line for both sides, it could be another cagey affair at Villa Park. Villa have conceded the third-fewest goals this season and West Ham have kept the sixth most clean sheets so goals could be at a premium.
