Aston Villa got back to winning ways last week under Steven Gerrard as they defeated Brighton 2-0 at the Amex. The result moved them to 30 points and was only their second victory from their last eight. The Midlands outfit are nine points above safety and should be safe but would like a few more victories quickly to be secure. Their games tend to be low scoring with four of their last five going under 2.5 goals.
At Villa Park, they are winless in their last four including a defeat to Watford. The defence has struggled at home with eight of the last nine visitors here grabbing at least one goal. Jacob Ramsey and Phillippe Coutinho have three goals from their last three appearances in front of their own fans. They need to start games quicker having scored first in just one of their last six at home.
Southampton continued their recent good run with a 3-1 FA Cup victory in midweek over West Ham to stretch their unbeaten run to seven. In the Premier League they sit ninth with 11 points coming from their last five. Che Adams is a player in form with goals in three of his last four league outings. Six of the last eight goals they have netted have come after the break.
Away from home, the Saints have lost just one of their last five with two victories and two draws. Both teams to score is a common feature of their away games and has happened in the last five. They need to tighten up a little on the road as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight. James Ward-Prowse enjoys a road trip and has three goals in his last five away appearances.
Aston Villa vs Southampton: Match Stats
Aston Villa did get back to winning ways last weekend but many Brighton fans will be their first to admit it was an awful performance from their team. Southampton are unbeaten in seven and full of confidence after beating Spurs and West Ham in recent weeks. The best bet is to take them in the draw no bet market against a Villa side who are without a home victory in four.
Skybet have a range of great offers on this game and one that caught the eye is the Saints to win this either 2-0 or 2-1 and Che Adams to score first. Adams has three in his last four outings while Southampton have won their last two league games 2-0.
