Southampton vs Aston Villa: Predictions
Southampton are one of the nine teams to have led the Premier League at some point this season but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are not in good form going into this weekend’s game against Aston Villa. Saints have won just one of their past seven games in the Premier League which has seen them drop from fourth and among the favourites for the top four, down to 11th.
Their sole win during that run did come against Liverpool, but they have followed that up with consecutive losses against Leicester and Arsenal, as many defeats as they had suffered in the previous 15 league games. Although they do still have 19 games left to play in the Premier League this season, and remain just six points off the top four, Southampton know they cannot afford to drop any more points.
Level on points with Southampton, but one place above on goal difference, are visitors Aston Villa. The Villans narrowly avoided relegation last season but have been a completely changed side and, like Southampton, are fighting for a European spot with two games in hand on some of the teams above them.
But their aspirations will have taken a hit in recent weeks, with the Villans losing three of their past four games in the Premier League. Last time out they were beaten 3-2 by Burnley, a game in which they had twice taken the lead against a side that had been considered among the relegation battlers.
