Aston Villa vs Chelsea: Predictions
Chelsea have their Champions League qualification to play for on the final day of the season after some terrific form in the second half of the campaign under Thomas Tuchel. Indeed, that form may see them win the European trophy itself as they face City in the final next weekend, but for now they’ll be keen to ensure a top four finish in the Premier League.
With Leicester struggling to get over the line and dropping points in recent fixtures, the Blues win over them last week could prove pivotal and it was particularly important for the Londoners to get back to winning ways after losing to the Foxes in the FA Cup final and to cross-town rivals Arsenal in their previous league fixture.
The final day opponents for Tuchel and his charges are an Aston Villa side with little to play for given that they cannot move up or down from their current position of 11th on the final day. That situation is far more preferable for boss Dean Smith to last season, where the Villains needed an away draw at West Ham to remain in the Premier League on the final day.
After a poorer run of form since early April saw them pick up just one win from seven games, Villa will have been delighted to come from behind to win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday and will now hope to take some confidence from that victory into their final game of the season.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea: Match Stats
Goals have been flowing in Aston Villa fixtures recently, with both teams finding the net in no fewer than eight of their last nine Premier League fixtures. The Blues have it all to play for and will still expect to take the three points with their superior quality, but we’re expecting both teams to score in the process at Villa Park.
Anwar El Ghazi is not a player you would call shot shy. The 26 year old winger has managed nine goals for the Villains this season and it’s not difficult to see why when he averages 3.64 attempts at goal per game. We’re backing him for 3+ shots here against Chelsea.
Anwar El Ghazi has averaged more shots per game of any Villa player with more than three appearances this season.
