Burnley vs Aston Villa: Predictions
Aston Villa narrowly escaped relegation last season, finishing one point above Bournemouth, and were largely thankful to a goal-line technology failure in their 0-0 draw with Sheffield United. They were, understandably, among the favourites to go down this season but Dean Smith has completely changed the fortunes of his side.
The Villans are currently eighth in the table, five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, with two games in hand on most of the teams around them. Even without those matches, Villa are very much in the conversation for at least a Europa League spot, recently ending a three-game losing streak by beating Newcastle at the weekend.
Burnley have also been climbing the table lately, but for them it’s been to move away from the relegation battle, recovering from their poor start to the campaign. After failing to win any of their opening seven Premier League matches, Burnley have now amassed five victories in their past 11 games to move up to 15th.
Their most recent game, last week, brought undeniably the biggest win of their season so far as they left Anfield with a 1-0 win, ending Liverpool’s 68-game unbeaten home run in the league.

Burnley vs Aston Villa: Match Stats
Wednesday’s game brings two teams at either end of the scoring spectrum together, with free-scoring Aston Villa’s 31 strikes only bettered by five teams in the Premier League this season, all of whom have played more games than the Villans. But Burnley are the joint-lowest scorers, finally hitting double figures for goals in their win over Liverpool, so expect the two sides to meet somewhere in the middle.
Five of Burnley’s 10 Premier League goals have come at Turf Moor this season, the worst scoring record for a home side. It will give them no confidence to be facing Emiliano Martinez in the opposing goal, either, with the Argentinian keeping eight clean sheets in his 16 Premier League away starts, the best record (50%) among those to have started at least 10 away matches.
