Arsenal are still very much in control of their Premier League destiny but we have seen some of their composure lost in recent matches. Once clear at the top of the table, Arsenal are now winless in their past three matches with two defeats, and have dropped down to second.
The poor run started with a 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, with the Toffees revived in Sean Dyche’s first game in charge. Arsenal then drew with Brentford in controversial fashion as VAR missed an offside check on Ivan Toney’s equaliser which would have seen it rule doubt. And, last time out, the Gunners were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City at the Emirates, with the defending champions overtaking them on goal difference – albeit having played a game more.
Looking to add to Arsenal’s misery is former Gunners boss Unai Emery, who is currently suffering his own poor run of form. After two wins and two defeats from his first four games having replaced Steven Gerrard, Emery’s Aston Villa went unbeaten in four matches in the Premier League.
A run of three wins and one draw was kicked off by victory over Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day, with further victories against Leeds and Southampton as well as a draw with Wolves. But that run came to an end with a 4-2 defeat against Leicester and last time out Emery’ side were beaten 3-1 by Man City, leaving them 11th.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal match stats
Aston Villa have conceded nine of their 34 Premier League goals this season in the opening 15 minutes of games, both a league-high total and percentage (26%). However, they are also quick starters in front of goal themselves. Eight of Villa’s 26 Premier League goals scored this season have come in the opening 15 minutes, a league-high percentage of 31%.
Aaron Ramsdale has kept a league-high seven away clean sheets in the Premier League this season but he may have to wait for number eight. The Englishman is now four without a clean sheet overall in the Premier League, and Aston Villa have scored in all 11 of their matches since Emery took charge in November.
