Arsenal vs Sheffield United: Predictions

Arsenal will look to bounce back from their 3-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool when they host Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

After a positive opening two games which saw them beat Fulham and West Ham, the Gunners succumbed to their first defeat of the season, largely being outplayed by the defending champions despite taking an early lead through Alexandre Lacazette.

In Sheffield United, they face a side without a win or even a goal so far this term, falling to 1-0 defeats against Aston Villa and Leeds United following a 2-0 loss to Wolves on the opening weekend.

Given how well they performed upon their Premier League return, this isn’t the sophomore season Chris Wilder will have been hoping for, but there’s plenty of time to turn things around. That starts here against an Arsenal side which the Blades took four points from in 2019/20.

Arsenal vs Sheffield United: Team Stats

It’s time for Sheffield United to stop the rot and where better to do it than in London, where the Blades are unbeaten in their last nine league games? The Yorkshire side are also unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches against Arsenal, conceding just one goal along the way, so, in some ways, you could say they’re the perfect opponent, given Sheffield United’s recent form.

That said, Arsenal look a far better side in Mikel Arteta and in Alexandre Lacazette, they have a man in form with the Frenchman scoring in each of the Gunners’ three league games so far this season. He will be keen to stay ahead of teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the goalscoring charts.

Arsenal vs Sheffield United: Team News

Arsenal can welcome back defenders Cedric Soares and Sokratis Papastathopoulos to their Premier League squad for this game, with the former featuring in the EFL Cup match against Liverpool in midweek. Pablo Mari, Emile Smith-Rowe, Shkodran Mustafi, Callum Cambers and exciting youngster Gabriel Martinelli all continue to miss out however.

Sheffield United won’t be able to hand a debut to  new signing Rhian Brewster on Sunday as his move from Liverpool was completed too late ahead of the weekend trip to North London. Defender John Egan is available again after suspension and will slot in for Jack O’Connell, who is has been revealed could now miss the whole season with injury.
