After eventually finishing runners-up to treble winning Man City in 2022/23, Mikel Arteta will be setting up his side for another title push this time around. Some smart acquisitions in the transfer window look to have strengthened the Gunners even more, as they look to juggle Champions League football with a chance of Premier League glory. The campaign has already started with a trophy after their penalty shootout victory over City in last weekend’s Community Shield match at Wembley.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their 16th place finish last term, after beating the odds and avoiding relegation when a lot of people had them favourites to go down. It was Forest’s home form which kept them in the division last term, with Steve Cooper’s side picking up 79% of their total points at the City Ground, but will need to pick up on the road in 2023/24 if they want to move up the table after recording just one way win all season last campaign.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest team news

The Gunners broke their transfer record this summer, with Declan Rice becoming their first ever £100m+ player and will go straight into their midfield. New signings Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber will also both be looking for a spot in the XI, while Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out with a knee injury, Mikel Arteta has confirmed.

“Unfortunately, he had a little procedure” the Spaniard confirmed.

“He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in. It’s not something major but he’s going to be out for a few weeks.”It’s a big blow because we had him back to his best, especially with the way he played against Barcelona and he was in good condition but unfortunately we lost him.

“We had to look at it and we had to make a decision and the best one is to protect the player and get him back as quick as possible. We decided to do it.”

Oleksandar Zinchenko will play no part, while Jorginho, Folarin Balogun and Reiss Nelson are all doubts.

It’s been a much quieter transfer window for Forest this time around, but Steve Cooper has added even more quality to his squad with the recent arrivals of Ola Aina, Chris Wood and Anthony Elanga, who has joined from Manchester United. Matt Turner, who recently joined from opponents Arsenal, may go straight into the starting XI with Wayne Hennessey out.

Taiwo Awoniyi, who scored in each of Nottingham Forest’s last four Premier League games, including the winner against Arsenal last season, is expected to miss out for Forest.
