Arsenal kicked off their 2022/23 campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over former captain Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park. The Gunners have already won more games (1), scored more goals (2) and kept more clean sheets (1) than they managed in their three games in August last season (all o) and will be looking to build on their opening day victory with another three points, this time at The Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s side have won six and drawn one of their 10 home league games so far in 2022, but have kept just two clean sheets in the process. This is something they will be looking to improve on this term, and with the return of William Saliba, who impressed on his Premier League debut against Palace. The Frenchman won 100% of his aerial duels and completed 94% of his passes in the first of many games alongside Gabriel, what could be a formidable partnership for years to come at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.

Leicester head to the Emirates with their heads down after throwing away a 2-0 lead against Brentford in the second half of their opener at the King Power. Goals from Ivan Toney and a late equaliser from Josh Da Silva denied the Foxes a hat-trick of opening day victories.

Brendan Rodgers side have struggled defensively away from home in the Premier League in recent seasons, keeping just one clean sheet in their 26 games on the road (which came against relegated Burnley in March). You would have to go back to February 2021 for Leicester’s last away clean sheet against a side currently in the top-flight, when they drew 0-0 with Wolves.

They do have an in-form James Maddison and a fit again Jamie Vardy in their ranks though, with the latter scoring 11 times against the Gunners, his favourite opponent in the Premier League. However, Vardy has failed to score in his last two against the Gunners.

Arsenal vs Leicester match stats

Gabriel Jesus impressed on his Premier League debut for Arsenal, completing more take-ons than any other player in Gameweek 1 (6) and having more touches inside the opposition box than any other Arsenal player (11), whilst also winning 10 duels. In his only other game at the Emirates as an Arsenal player, the Brazilian scored a hat-trick against Sevilla in the Emirates Cup and now faces one of his favourite Premier League opponents in Leicester, who he has scored five goals against in just seven Premier League appearances.

James Maddison started the 2022/23 campaign exactly where he left off in 2021/22 with an impressive performance against Brentford. The Englishman was directly involved in 11 of the Foxes’ 14 shots, creating five chances, having six shots and providing an assist for the opening goal of the game for Timothy Castagne. Including the end of last season, he has now been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight Premier League games (4 goals, 4 assists).
