Andorra vs Republic of Ireland: Predictions
While a lot of Europe are planning for Euro 2020, Republic of Ireland have a free summer, with the exception of two friendlies which they will be hoping to use to get back on track. The Boys in Green are in terrible form and started 2021 winless, losing both of their World Cup qualifiers while always drawing a friendly. While one of the qualifying wins would have been expected (a 3-2 defeat to Serbia), the 1-0 reverse at home to Luxembourg was regarded as one of the low points in recent Irish football history.
Andorra, ranked 158th in the world, aren’t in good form either, though that can be expected given the stature of the nation. Like Republic of Ireland, Andorra opened their 2022 World Cup qualifying with defeats, losing to Albania, Poland and Hungary, already looking out of the picture for a trip to Qatar with England still to come. But they will be looking to take advantage of any poor form Republic of Ireland may be in, potentially adding their opponents to a small list of teams they have beaten.
Andorra vs Republic of Ireland: Match Stats
This match does not scream goals, with both sides lacking any standout scorer. James McClean is the top scorer in Republic of Ireland’s squad with 11 goals in 80 caps, more than the rest of the team combined. Eleven is also enough to be the top scorer in Andorra’s current squad, with defender Ildefons Lima holding that place of honour, six clear of Cristian Martinez.
Republic of Ireland haven’t won in 2021, but their poor form didn’t start there. In fact, the Boys in Green are winless since November 2019, when they beat New Zealand 3-1 in a friendly. Since then, they have drawn six of their 12 games, though one of those draws resulted in a penalty-shootout defeat. At the same time, Andorra are winless since October 2019, drawing just three of their 14 games.
