Best Bundesliga players of 2021/22: Top scorer, best assister, most saves and more
So there it is, another Bundesliga season has come and gone and fans of the German top flight have been treated.
Bayern Munich were once again crowned champions, for the 10th season in a row, wrapping up the trophy with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund with a few games to spare. Marco Rose’s side confirmed second, five points clear of third-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
RB Leipzig joined them in the top four, securing their Champions League spot on the final day of the Bundesliga season, pipping Freiburg at the post. Freiburg will have to settle for a Europa Conference League spot, with Union Berlin leapfrogging them on the final day to finish fifth and secure Europa League football.
At the other end of the table, Greuther Furth and Arminia Bielefeld were relegated to 2. Bundesliga, with Hertha Berlin set to contest the relegation play-off.
As well as the team performances, there were a lot of excellent individual displays across the campaign as the usual names were joined by some new stars. Robert Lewandowski was, naturally, key to Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga thanks to his goals — but they may not have him for much longer with the Polish striker expressing his interest to leave the club.
The Bundesliga will be without Lewandowski’s big scoring rival too, with Erling Haaland set to join Premier League side Manchester City in the summer. But one player that looks set to stay in the Bundesliga is Christopher Nkunku, and the RB Leipzig forward has been phenomenal this season.
