This will be the first of six games in pre-season for Besiktas, as part of a three-match tour of Austria before two games in Spain and a closer back in Istanbul. Besiktas then start their Turkish Super Lig campaign at home to Yukatel Kayserispor on 7 August, and they’ve had a busy summer in the transfer market so far.
After finishing sixth in the league last season and missing out on European football for the first time since 2012/13, Valerian Ismael has already brought in six new players including Gedson Fernandes, Romain Saiss and Wout Weghorst – the latter on loan from Championship side Burnley.

Werder Bremen have been slightly less busy than Besiktas but have still signed four new players including Oliver Burke from Sheffield United on a free transfer, while allowing Omer Toprak and Luca Plogmann to leave at the end of their contracts.
Burke has already played for Werder Bremen in pre-season, scoring twice in the win over Karlsruher but that didn’t stop manager Ole Werner from criticising the Scot, saying he “was missing something in terms of match fitness.”
Naturally that fitness will come with more time and matches in pre-season, and Burke will be hoping for another positive showing in Austria.
