Besiktas vs Trabzonspor build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Besiktas were narrow winners of the Turkish Super Lig last season, beating Galatasaray by one solitary goal with the two sides level points. Fans will have hoped Besiktas would build on this victory and look to win back-to-back titles for the fourth time in their history. Things started well with Besiktas going unbeaten in their opening six matches, winning four, but they haven’t been in good form of late. Besiktas have lost three of their past five matches, beaten by Altay, Istanbul Basaksehir and Hatayspor, while also encountering misery in the Champions League.
It’s not a good time, then, for them to host the early Turkish Super Lig leaders. Trabzonspor, who finished fourth last season, are the last unbeaten side left in Turkey’s top flight with eight wins and three draws from their opening 11 matches. Avci’s have the best attack in the league and the second-best defence, and may already be feeling the benefit from their early exit in the Europa Conference League qualifying round. Trabzonspor go into this game off the back of a four-match winning run without includes a victory over Fenerbahce to overtake them just after the international break, and they haven’t looked back since.
- Besiktas (vs Sporting): Destanoglu; Uysal, Welinton, Montero, Yilmaz; Topal; Ghezzal, Souza, Hutchinson, Larin; Karaman.
- Trabzonspor (vs Caykur Rizespor): Cakir; Tokoz, Ie*, Vitor Hugo, Trondsen; Ozdemir, Siopis; Omur, Hamsik, Gervinho*; Djaniny.
Besiktas remain without Michy Batshuayi and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, while Can Bozdogan is also sidelined. Edgar Ie is suspended for Trabzonspor for picking up his fourth yellow card of the campaign and Gervinho unfortunately suffered a season-ending cruciate ligament injury in the win over Caykur Rizespor last weekend.
Player to watch: Anastasios Bakasetas (Trabzonspor)
After a break due to injury, Anastasios Bakasetas made his Trabzonspor return from the bench last weekend and should be in line to start against Besiktas this weekend. And that’s good news for the league leaders.
The Greek midfielder is the Turkish Super Lig’s top scorer this season netting seven goals in 10 appearances so far this season, averaging 0.84 per 90 minutes. While three of Bakasetas’ goals have come from the penalty spot, he has proving himself a decent threat from open play too, providing support for Trabzonspor’s main attacker.
Bakasetas has been about more than just the goals too, recording three assists, with no player in the Turkish Super Lig directly involved in more goals than the Greek’s 10. He has created 15 chances in the league at an average of 1.8 per 90 minutes, with 1.32 take-ons completed per 90 too.
