As things stand, the Eagles are six points behind second place FC Porto, who have played a game more. At home they’ve been near flawless this season. Benfica’s present situation is in contrast to Marítimo, who are entrenched in a relegation battle. Julio Velázquez’s side are second from bottom, albeit just one point away from escaping the danger zone. Seferovic also goes into this latest outing having scored in each of his past four matches, which echoes a similar run before (during the 2019/20 campaign he’d score in eight consecutive league matches for the Eagles).
It remains to be seen whether he’s able to replicate that streak but the once written-off striker has given himself every chance of doing so again.
