Benevento vs Torino build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Benevento are in Serie A for just the second time in their history, and things are going a lot better than their debut campaign. In 2017/18 Benevento finished rock bottom of the table with just six wins and three draws from their 38 games, amassing 21 points.

They have already equalled that amount after 18 games this season, and are sitting eight points clear of the relegation zone with daylight between those and the teams currently fighting the drop. However, they Benevento were given a reminder of the task they have, beaten 4-1 by basement club Crotone at the weekend.

One of the teams occupying the bottom three are Torino, who have managed just two wins so far this season, and recently sacked their manager with the hopes of a change in fortunes. Davide Nicola is the man tasked with the job of steering Torino to safety, back in Serie A after leaving Genoa at the end of last season.

His task with Genoa was the same as his current situation at Torino, saving a team from relegation, and he did exactly that was he achieved with Il Grifone as they four points clear of the drop zone come the end of the campaign. Only time will tell if he can achieve that feat again with Torino, but the hard work starts on Friday.

  • Benevento (vs Crotone): Montipo; Improta, Tuia, Glik, Barba; Hetemaj, Ionita, Dabo; Insigne*, Sau*; Lapadula.
  • Torino (vs Spezia): Sirigu; Izzo, Buongiorno, Bremer; Singo, Linetty, Lukic, Segre, Murru; Verdi, Belotti.

Marco Sau is suspended following his red card against Crotone at the weekend and Benevento have a host of other players unavailable through injury, including Roberto Insigne, Pasquale Schiattarella and Gaetano Letizia.

Torino can call upon Tomas Rincon once again following his suspension, but Mergim Vojvoda are Federico Bonazzoli are still injured.

Player to watch: Iago Falque (Benevento)

Iago Falque got off the mark for the season in Benevento’s 4-1 defeat against Crotone at the weekend, coming on from the bench, but this Friday’s match will mean a lot more to the Spaniard.

Torino is, in fact, Falque’s parent club, joining Benevento on loan in the summer having not played for The Bulls since October 2019 due to injury problems. And he has history in this fixture, being the only player to have scored in both of the previous two meetings between these sides in Serie A.

In September 2017, Falque scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Torino over Benevento, with the strike coming in injury time, and he netted once again in a 3-0 victory later in the campaign. Could he make it three in three?
