Wissam Ben Yedder has reportedly rejected a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League as the Sevilla striker holds out for a switch to one of Europe’s elite clubs.
According to a report by French publication L’Equipe, Ben Yedder has turned down an offer from Beijing Synobo Guoan, which would have seen him remunerated €1m per month.
Could Ben Yedder join Man Utd? Five things to know…
- Ben Yedder has been consistently linked with a move to Man Utd this summer.
- Recent reports in Spain suggested Man Utd had “agreed personal terms” with Ben Yedder, who is thought to have a £35.9m release clause.
- Man Utd could seek a new forward if Romelu Lukaku leaves.
- The Belgian has been in talks with Inter Milan, but a fee is yet to be agreed.
- Ben Yedder has rejected a move to China as he supposedly wants to hold out for a move a top European club.
It is believed the Frenchman is holding out for a move to the “highest level”, which could be at Old Trafford with Lukaku’s Man Utd future yet to be decided.
The Red Devils have already rejected a €60m (£54m) offer from Inter Milan for Lukaku, but the 26-year-old has recently been omitted from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 26-man squad for the club’s pre-season friendly against Kristiansund on Tuesday.
This has fuelled rumours that Antonio Conte could return for the towering forward, which would open the door for Ben Yedder to complete a “dream” move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
“I dream of playing at the highest level, in the biggest clubs in the world and being next to world-class players,” Ben Yedder explained earlier this month.
“I want to see how far I can go and it is the right time (to leave), as they say.
“I cannot be disrespectful to the club, whatever the final decision, I’ll be fine, I’m not worried about my future.
“I will take stock after the international fixtures, but it will also be Sevilla who decide.”

Another player who has been linked with a move to United should Lukaku pitch up at the San Siro is Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
The 23-year-old came off the bench to bag a brace against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup on Sunday, securing Les Gones the trophy, but he immediately poured cold water on a move away from the Groupama Stadium.
Speaking after Lyon beat Arsenal 2-1 in north London, he said: “The most important thing is that we won. I want to be an undisputed starter this season.
“I’m going to have to perform well consistently. I want to have a great season with Lyon.”
