The hosts currently lead the championship after the opening ten rounds and have won four of their last five home matches while averaging four goals per game. Bayern vs Freiburg build-up & previous line-ups:

A glance at the Bundesliga table and it’s no surprise to see Bayern Munich leading the young championship. After their opening 10 league outings Julian Nagelsmann’s men sit on 25 points, their best start to a league campaign in six years, while scoring 38 times (which is a German top-flight record after 10 games) and conceding just 10 times. Heading into this weekend’s clash Bayern have not lost any of their 21 home Bundesliga games against Freiburg (18 wins and 3 draws) – they’ve only faced Wolfsburg more often at home in the top-flight without ever losing (24). Robert Lewandowski, who is gunning for this year’s Ballon dOr prize, is expected to start. He’s scored in each of his last five meetings with Freiburg, among the current Bundesliga teams the Polish marksman has a longer active scoring run against Köln (6).

So far this season Freiburg have been the Bundesliga’s surprise package. Christian Streich’s men sit in third after winning six of their opening 10 games and they are the league’s remaining unbeaten side. Their points tally of 22 is their best return at this stage of a campaign. Also this is the first team Freiburg have not tasted defeat in their opening 10 games in a Bundesliga season which equals  their club record of 10 unbeaten league matches in a row (between 2011 and 2012). Freiburg have won only one of their last 36 Bundesliga games against them (which includes eight draws and 27 losses): a 2-1 home victory in 2014’15 when Bayern had already secured the championship under Pep Guardiola.

  • Bayern (vs Benfica): Neuer; Pavard, Upamecano, Nianzou, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich; Coman, Gnabry, Sané; Lewandowski.
  • Freiburg (vs Greuther Fürth): Flekken; Kübler, Lienhart, Schlotterbeck, Günter; Schade, Höfler, Eggestein, Grifo; Jeong, Höler.

Player to watch: Thomas Müller (Bayern)

If not for Robert Lewandowski then Thomas Müller would comfortably be Bayern’s most outstanding player. But in his own right the German forward is undroppable. Müller was directly involved in four goals (one goal and three assists) for the second time in his Bundesliga career last time out against Union Berlin as the champions ran out 5-2 winners. The 32-year-old also leads when it comes to assists (seven) which equals the best return in the Bundesliga after the opening ten rounds since 2004/05 (last achieved by Kevin de Bruyne for Wolfsburg in 2014/15). In terms of goals scored, Müller has registered four strikes to date, albeit just one has come at home which came on matchday three against Hertha Berlin.
