Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen build-up, previous line-ups & pre-match team news:
After starting slow, Hansi Flick’s men have won each of their last five league matches to move two points clear of RB Leipzig at the summit of the table. Although they’ve been questionable defensively, Bayern have scored a massive 18 goals during that time and once again look too hot to handle for the rest of the German top flight.
But this could prove to be a tough game against Werder Bremen who, despite winning just two of their opening seven Bundesliga matches, have lost just once so far. Florian Kohfeldt’s side have proven themselves as draw specialists and will be out to take advantage of Bayern’s weak defensive underbelly.
- Bayern Munich (vs Borussia Dortmund): Neuer; Sarr, Boateng, Alaba, Hernandez; Kimmich*, Goretzka; Coman, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski.
- Werder Bremen (vs FC Koln): Pavlenka; Toprak, Moisander, Friedl; Gebre Selassie, Eggestein, Groß, Mbom; Rashica, Bittencourt; Sargent.
Joshua Kimmich is out for the rest of this year after undergoing surgery on a ligament injury. Corentin Tolisso and Alphonso Davies are also sidelined, giving Flick some selection headaches. Joshua Zirkzee is a doubt.
Milos Veljkovic. Davie Selke, Ole Kauper and top scorer Niclas Fullkrug are all out for Werder Bremen.
Players to watch:
Bayern Munich: With Kimmich sidelined until January, even more of the creative burden has been placed upon the shoulders of Thomas Muller who, with five assists, is the only player to have set up more goals than his compatriot (4) in the Bundesliga for Bayern this season. Muller’s return to form has been wonderful to watch over the past couple of years, with the Germany international dovetailing beautifully with Robert Lewandowski, creating space for Bayern’s lightning-fast wingers and getting on the end of chances to supplement his own goal tally, too. Muller has scored (13) and assisted (17) more goals against Werder Bremen than any other opponent throughout his career. He’ll no doubt smell blood again here.
Werder Bremen: After spending the last couple of years in and out of the line-up, Josh Sargent is finally getting the consistent starting minutes he’s craved for so long with Werder Bremen this season. Thus far, the United States international has failed to truly deliver, grabbing just one goal and one assist in seven Bundesliga appearances so far. Sargent does, however, lead the way among Bremen players in terms of chances created (11), also ranking second for completed dribbles (6) and third for aerial duels won (12). At 20, time is well on his side and there’s no doubting there is a lot of talent and versatility there. Now, it’s time to start adding the goals.
