Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac says Leroy Sane could “definitely” help the Bavarians and insists he would like to add the winger to his squad.

The form of Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva meant Sane struggled hold down a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side last season, but still managed to produce 10 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.

Sane to Bayern? Five key things to know…

  • Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery departed Bayern last season.
  • This leaves them with youngsters Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Alphonso Davies on the wings.
  • Over the summer, Bayern have consistently been linked with Leroy Sane.
  • Sane struggled for starting time at City last term, despite notching 10 goals and 10 assists.
  • Kovac has admitted Sane would “definitely” help his side progress.

Bayern are in desperate need of investment in wide areas following the departure of Robben and Ribery at the end of last season and Sane has been consistently linked with a move to the Allianz Arena.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Bayern’s return to training, Kovac once again admitted he would be happy to see a deal for Sane come to fruition.

He said (via Goal): “Yes. Full stop. Exclamation mark!

“He definitely could help us. You saw in the national team and at City what kind of qualities he has.”

Bayern are yet to make a high-profile attacking move in this summer’s transfer window and have also seen James Rodriguez leave the club following the expiration of his loan from Real Madrid.

And Kovac has spoken out about the difficulties facing the Bundesliga champions in the current market, with the likes of Man City and PSG mopping up talent with impossibly rich owners.

“We fight against states and billionaires,” he added. “The players go to Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Dubai. They have much more money at their disposal than a club like FC Bayern.”

Despite Kovac’s concerns about transfer targets potentially being lured elsewhere, Bayern successfully smashed their transfer record to sign Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez earlier this summer.
