Bayern Munich will be looking to keep hold of their spot at the top of the Bundesliga when they host Hoffenheim on Saturday at 2:30pm (UK time).

Julian Nagelsmann’s side are currently one point clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the league after their emphatic 5-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, but things remain very tight. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, are ninth, five points outside the top four as things stand, with three wins and three defeats from their opening eight matches.

Player to watch: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

This Bayern Munich side is full of stars who all deserve their acclaim, but sometimes it’s just too hard to look past Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is at the very top of his game and is showing no signs of slowing down despite turning 33 over the summer.

Already this season, Lewandowski has scored 15 goals in 11 matches for Bayern across all competitions, including nine in the Bundesliga. The 33-year-old has netted in six of his eight appearances, only failing to fit the net against Greuther Furth and Eintracht Frankfurt, while bagging a hat-trick against Hertha Berlin.

It was Lewandowski’s brace last weekend that set Bayern on the way to their 5-1 win over Leverkusen, opening the scoring after just three minutes and doubling the lead on the half-hour mark – starting the period that saw them score four goals in seven minutes.

Alongside his exploits for the Polish national team, Lewandowski is among the favourites to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or and the Bayern striker has been backed by Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to beat the likes of Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema and Mohamed Salah.

“If I had to choose myself personally, I’m going to look at a two-year period, because we didn’t have anyone [last year],” De Bruyne said recently.

“I’d choose Lewandowski for what he has done in the last two years – goalscoring wise, and also he’s won a lot with Bayern. He would be my pick.”
