Record title-holders Real Madrid have made a strong start to the 2022/23 EuroLeague season, with summer appointment Jesus Mateo guiding the club to second in the table after 15 matches. With an identical 10-5 record with current table-toppers Fenerbahce Beko, the summit is exceptionally claustrophobic.

Having inherited his squad from esteemed tactician Pablo Laso, who held the reins for over a decade, there were question marks as to whether Mateo could continue the good work of his predecessor. But, the former No. 2 has made a strong start, with his side clinging to the coattails of the current leaders.

Baskonia have also put themselves in the table-topping conversation. Like, Fenerbahce and Real, the Spanish club also boast a 10-5 record and currently sit third in the table, placing a significant emphasis on this game for both clubs. The four-time Spanish champions are yet to win a EuroLeague and may feel now is their best opportunity to etch their name in continental history.

Joan Penarroya’s men are on a tear of five winning games, claiming the scalp of Fenerbahce in that time, as well as reigning champions Anadolu Efes. Pierria Henry and Maik Kotsar are both having stellar seasons and could prove the catalysts in a potential upset on Thursday.
