Barcelona will look to get their Champions League campaign up and running when they host Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday at 5:45pm (UK time).

The Blaugrana have made a disastrous start in Group E, losing 3-0 to both Bayern Munich and Benfica and finding themselves rooted to the bottom of the standings after two games.

But there is a silver lining to the dark cloud hanging over the Camp Nou right now. For starters, Barcelona bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid by beating Valencia 3-1 at the weekend. And in that match, we saw Ansu Fati start for the first time this season, netting the equaliser just eight minutes after Los Che had taken the lead.

With all their financial difficulties, Barcelona are once again leaning on La Masia for talent, with Pedri and Gavi also making waves. Fati has been on our radars a little longer, and has given us a timely reminder of his immense abilities with two goals in just 94 minutes of La Liga action this season. During what was an injury-hit 2020/21 campaign, Fati — still just 18 — hit the net four times in seven appearances. The teenager’s six goals since the start of last season have come from an xG total of just 2.19, further evidence of the magic in his boots.

Sergio Aguero also regained enough fitness to make a cameo appearance from the bench on Sunday. The Argentine received a wonderful reception, with the Barcelona fanbase clearly making an impression on him.

“Well that was incredible, people calling my name, singing my name. I liked the song and it would be nice to get used to that,” he said. “I want to thank them on the pitch for that affection. I can’t hug everyone individually but I hope they enjoy my play on the pitch.”

Aguero regularly struggles with injuries nowadays but, when fit, he remains a lethal finisher and could still prove to be a genuine difference-maker for Ronald Koeman, who is in short supply of difference-makers right now. The 33-year-old has faced Dynamo Kyiv twice before, back in the 2015/16 Champions League group stages for Man City. Back then, Aguero went unbeaten across two games, while he scored the opening goal in a 3-1 away win for the Citizens. That scoreline would go down perfectly with Koeman and the Blaugrana here.

Scoreline prediction: Barcelona 2-0 Dynamo Kyiv
