Barcelona and Valencia will be looking to move closer to La Liga’s top four when they face off at the Nou Camp on Sunday at 8pm (UK time)

The two sides are level on 12 points going into this game, though Barcelona have a match in hand over their visitors. Ronald Koeman’s side tasted defeat before the international break, losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid but Valencia are in even worse form, without a league win in four matches.

Barcelona vs Valencia previous line-ups and injury news:

  • Barcelona (vs Atletico Madrid): Ter Stegen; Mingueza, Pique, Araujo*, Dest; Busquets, Gonzalez; De Jong, Coutinho, Gavi; Depay.
  • Valencia (vs Cadiz): Cillessen; Foulquier, Gabriel, Alderete*, Lato; Musah, Wass, Guillamon, Duro; Guedes, Marcos Andre.

Ronald Araujo has suffered a hamstring injury and will miss out for Barcelona, joining Martin Braithwaite and Pedri on the sidelines, but Sergio Aguero is in the squad. Valencia, meanwhile, are without the suspended Omar Alderete who has already received five yellow cards this season.

Koeman: Barcelona can still compete for La Liga

Barcelona go into their game against Valencia in ninth and by pure positioning, and certain performances, some may be looking to rule them out of the title race already.

As well as being thoroughly outplayed by Atletico Madrid before the international break, Barcelona have also suffered disappointing draws with Cadiz and Granada – not to mention their poor start to the Champions League which has Ronald Koeman hanging to his job by a thread in some eyes.

But the Dutchman has not given up and believes, once he gets a fully-fit squad, Barcelona can still challenge for the title this season.

“When the injured [players] recover, I am more satisfied with the squad,” Koeman told reporters. “There are always injuries, but we were unlucky.

“Almost all the forwards were injured. We can compete to win the championship. To get the best performance you have to have all the men available. Little by little we will get better.”

Barcelona are just five points behind Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad who are joint-top of the table in this early stage. And the Blaugrana also have a game in hand on a lot of the teams above them, but they will need to start stringing together league victories while also focussing on turning things around in the Champions League.
