Barcelona v Levante looks like a must-win for new manager Quique Setien if he is to help retain their La Liga title in his first season at the helm.

Barcelona suffered a shock 2-0 defeat against Valencia in their last top-flight encounter to give Real Madrid a clear advantage at the top of the table.

In an uncharacteristically poor display, the Catalans failed to find the net for the first time since drawing a blank against Los Blancos in mid-December.

They will aim to bounce straight back against a Levante side who have been incredibly inconsistent this season and who are coming into this game on a run of three straight defeats in La Liga.

Ones to watch

Barcelona: Lionel Messi

It may be the obvious choice but you simply cannot take your eyes off Lionel Messi. He has been superb again this season for Barca and bagged a brace in the 5-0 Copa del Rey victory over Leganes in midweek.

With Suarez and Dembele out of action, he will be relied upon to an even greater extent as the Catalans look to keep the pressure on Real Madrid in what has been an enthralling title race so far.

The Argentine leads the Barcelona scoring charts once again this season, hitting 14 goals in 15 La Liga starts in 2019-20.

Key stat: Leo Messi has been directly involved in more La Liga goals this season (20 – 14 goals and six assists) than any other player in the division.

Levante: Jose Campana

Jose Campana is Levante’s key creator and has been an important force in the midfield this season for Paco Lopez’s side.

He has good vision and a level of skill Crystal Palace fans would struggle to recall from his brief stint in South London. During the current campaign, he has been leading the assists charts again for his team, notching five in 20 appearances so far.

Key stat: Campana has completed at least 29 more key passes than any other Levante player in 2019-20.

Squawka prediction

Barcelona cannot afford to drop any more points if they are to keep pace with Real Madrid in the race for the La Liga crown.

Barca have failed to win four of their last six league games and are lucky to only be three points behind Los Blancos. Levante cannot be taken lightly having won the reverse fixture 3-1 in November but have a terrible record against the Catalans, losing 21 of their 29 meetings.

This should be a comfortable win for Quique Setien’s side given the talent available and could see the Valencian outfit fall to their fourth consecutive league defeat.

Scoreline prediction: Barcelona 3-0 Levante
