Roma star Edin Dzeko ‘definitely’ wants to see Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s loan move made permanent following an impressive debut.

The Armenian international joined Roma on loan from Arsenal and scored on his first appearance for the club.

Will Mkhitaryan’s move be made permanent? Five key things to know…

  • The former-Dortmund attacker joined on loan on deadline day from Arsenal.
  • The 30-year-old’s temporary deal cost Roma €3m plus add-ons.
  • He made a perfect start, scoring on his debut.
  • Edin Dzeko wants Roma to make his move permanent.
  • Mkhitaryan’s current deal at Arsenal expires in the summer of 2021.

Dzeko was delighted with the impact his new teammate had on his debut as Roma thrashed Sassuolo 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Bosnian striker was also on the scoresheet as the Giallorossi leapt into a four-goal lead in just over half-an-hour of play.

Despite it being his first game for the club, Dzeko revealed he was not surprised with Mkhitaryan’s impact.

“I expect it from him. I know him as a great player, and he is a very good addition to our attacking team who wants to play football,” Dzeko told Sky Sports.

“I am one hundred per cent sure he is going to be a big help for us. I was definitely happy to see this transfer happen.

“After we played for our national teams and he scored two goals against us I told him ‘my friend, next games you have to score for Roma as well!’

“He’s a great pro. I remember him also from Borussia Dortmund times and he will be a big player for us. Hopefully, he can stay a long time here.

“Hopefully he will [stay]. He will see that we are playing football here and immediately he scored a goal so hopefully, he can have more goals and a lot of assists for us.”

The Armenian star joined the Giallorossi on deadline day and has teamed up with fellow loanees Chris Smalling and Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta.

With the season still young, Roma sit eighth in the Serie A table and face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League on Thursday.
