Arsenal v Brighton takes place on Wednesday at 7.45pm (UK time).

It’s an all-Premier League affair in north London as current pace-setters Arsenal play host to Brighton in the Third Round of the EFL Cup. Mikel Arteta’s men enjoyed table-topping success in the Europa League groups and currently lead the way in the Premier League, so the Spanish tactician will be hopeful of translating that form to this competition. It will be Roberto De Zerbi’s first taste of domestic-cup football in England, with Graham Potter initially guiding Brighton through the Second Round, a 3-0 win over Forest Green Rovers back in August.

Arsenal team news

The Arsenal infirmary is a quiet place these days, with only Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu currently resting up on the sidelines, with a groin and muscular injury respectively. Arteta will likely make wholesale changes to the starting XI that put Chelsea to the sword on Sunday as he keeps one eye on this weekend’s match against Wolves. That could see the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Albert Sambi Lokonga handed rare playing time.

Brighton team news

The Seagulls, likewise, boast a relatively injury-free squad at the minute. De Zerbi’s current casualty list extends only to Jakub Moder, so the Italian coach has the luxury of selection. Despite the calibre of opposition, he may also be tempted to shuffle the pack somewhat in order to maximise the depth of his squad, opening the door for the likes of Tariq Lamptey, Billy Gilmour and Jeremy Sarmiento.

Scoreline prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Brighton (Arsenal win on penalties)
