Ansu Fati dreams of Lionel Messi reunion at Barcelona
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati hopes Lionel Messi finishes his playing career at the Camp Nou.
The 35-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward ended a two-decade association with the Catalan giants last summer. Before unceremoniously departing Messi had played a pivotal role in Barça winning trophies aplenty. He left with four European Cup winners medals and having lifted the La Liga title on ten occasions.

Messi is also the clubs all-time leading marksman with 670 goals, netted across 776 matches, while creating no fewer than 302 more for his teammates with three of those converted by Ansu Fati who has since inherited the Argentine’s ‘number 10’ jersey. Troublesome injuries have stunted Fati’s development though he’s backing himself to be at 100% in the forthcoming season.
Yet to celebrate his 20th birthday, the Bissau-born forward is happy with the attacking reinforcements of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha but he’s keen to see Messi return one day and receive the farewell he deserves.
“I am working to achieve this and I have no doubt that with work and sacrifice I will get there and I will be the same as before. It’s true that right now I’m still not one hundred percent, but I’m getting better and better every day,” he told TV3.
“It is clear that we form a great team, very competitive. The reinforcements will bring us a lot. They are all great players. If I would like a return from Messi? Sure! He could therefore have the farewell he deserves, by the front door, as the number one in history should do,” Fati added.
Barcelona get their 2022/23 La Liga campaign underway on August 13 when they host Rayo Vallecano.
