Angola vs Gabon build-up & previous line-ups:

A miserable qualification campaign has ensured Angola will sit out a third Afcon tournament across four editions, after taking part in five successive competitions previously. Pedro Gonçalves’ side are winless heading into the final matchday after suffering four defeats and leaving DR Congo with a goalless draw. They also come into this game with just one home success in three previous outings but Palancas Negras are currently on a two-match losing streak, having lost to Gambia (1-3) and DR Congo (0-1).

Gabon will finish as Group D winners if they match Gambia’s result on the final matchday. Patrice Neveu’s men returned to winning ways last time out when picked up a 3-0 victory over DR Congo, a game which saw Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang end a four-game goalscoring drought. Les Panthères, though, haven’t looked good away from home in the Afcon qualifiers since 2012. Across nine previous outings, they’ve claimed just one win (0-1 at South Sudan), albeit only having suffered three defeats.

  • Angola (vs Gambia): Marques; João, Gaspar, Matuwila, Paízo; Buatu, Show; Fredy, Estrela, Ary Papel; Nzola.
  • Gabon (vs DR Congo): Amonome; Palun, Nguema, Ecuele Manga, Obiang; Lemina, Ndong; Aubameyang, Kanga, Bouanga; Boupendza.

Player to watch: Denis Bouanga (Gabon)

Aubameyang will not be available for this encounter, a small blow that Gabon will hope is eased by the form of Denis Bouanga, who is the other forward with five or more international goals to his name available to head coach Neveu. Bouanga, in a 75-minute outing, found the net against DR Congo last time out and the left winger has looked the part for Saint-Étienne this season, registering five goals across 29 Ligue 1 appearances so far.
