NFL picks for Week 14: Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs to win

The banged up Tennessee Titans will look to return to winning ways against the Jacksonville Jaguars in one of our selected NFL matchups for Week 14.

Missing key offensive men and on a two-game losing streak, the Titans arrive at a soft landing spot in the Jags, thought they surely did enough earlier in the season and will now be focused on getting key men fit for a proper stab at the playoffs.

In his main column this week, our NFL expert Nat Coombs looks at the role of the running back in the wake of New England’s rushing night against the Bills on Monday.

NFL Week 14 predictions

Tennessee Titans vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Having three elite offensive playmakers — Derrick Henry, Julio Jones and AJ Brown — on IR in early December doesn’t bode well for the Titans’ chances in the postseason, but ESPN’s Diani Russini reported this week that the team is optimistic Henry could return just in time for the playoffs. If true, it’d be dangerous to sleep on Tennessee as Super Bowl contenders, particularly with both Brown and Jones expected back by that time, Jones possibly even as early as this week.

At 8-4, the Titans, fresh off a bye week, are in second spot in the AFC seedings. With their strongest offensive weapons missing, and the fact they’re dealing with some key injuries within the linebacking corp, it makes the Jags worth keeping an eye on.

However, Jacksonville have been a huge disappointment over the last month, failing to build on their upset win over the Bills, losing four straight, and conceivably ending up with the number one overall pick again. I back Mike Vrabel to outthink Urban Meyer, and the Titans to get it done ugly. That won’t bother them in the slightest.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Buffalo Bills

Speaking of which, the Bills defeat to the Pats on MNF — in a game where New England only attempted three passes, and ground Buffalo into submission — was a brutal experience, like a round with Rocky Balboa where he’s only unleashing body blow after body blow and not bothering with, y’know, jabs or hooks.

To make matters worse, the free-falling Bills head to Tampa Bay, where the champs are in formidable form and could inflict Buffalo’s third defeat in four. Brian Daboll can’t get a ground game going, and this lack of dimension, whilst offset to a degree by Josh Allen’s ability in this regard, is a real issue, particularly against a Bucs defense with speed across the unit.

Offensively, Brady & Co are moving as fluently as ever, with an improving ground game, and the usual wealth of receiving options — they aren’t particularly missing Antonio Brown. If the Bills run-in wasn’t so favourable, I’d start to question if Miami might pip them in the East. Either way, Tampa Bay rolls to a win, and closer to the number one seed in the NFC.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders

Regular readers of this column and listeners to my podcast will know I’ve been banging the Patriots drum for quite a while, and similarly, I cautioned against writing off Kansas City too soon, when many seemed to want to do so.

Their offense still isn’t at all consistent, and at times resembles a bad 2019 Chiefs tribute act, but I refuse to believe that will carry on indefinitely, with so much quality within. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is key here and could be instrumental in the run-in if he stays fit.

Furthermore, their defense is improving week on week — as Steve Spagnuolo defenses often do — and despite one of the toughest schedules in the league (they’ve found a way to win several games they perhaps had no business being in) are now eyeing a very credible road to the number one seed in the AFC.

Once Andy Reid & Co are in the playoffs, they’ll be in familiar territory, with the belief that their indifferent start to the season was immaterial, and undoubtedly will have plays saved up for big moments. If they can navigate the road to LA running through Arrowhead, they’ve a very real chance at a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. I expect the rhythm to be found increasingly by Mahomes and his offense as they did a few weeks back against Las Vegas, and whilst I don’t see a similar blow out, this is another step forward on the Chiefs’ comeback tour.
