“I don’t think Man United are playing Champions League football” – Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder tells Antony what he’ll miss by reuniting with Erik ten Hag

Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder has warned Manchester United target Antony that he will be forgoing Champions League football if his desired switch to Old Trafford goes through.
The 22-year-old Brazilian forward is continually linked with a mega €100m move to become former boss Erik ten Hag’s latest signing at the record 20-time English champions. Ahead of De Godenzonen‘s recent Eredivisie outing at Sparta Rotterdam it was reported they rejected a €80m bid with United expected to come with a renewed higher offer before the summer window shuts.
Antony’s former teammate Lisandro Martinez has already made the journey from Amsterdam to Manchester but there’s no desire from the powers that be to sanction another such transfer. That being said, Antony wasn’t part of the Ajax squad which ran out 1-0 winners against Sparta, the former Sao Paulo academy graduate sat out training with his spot in Schreuder’s team being filled by Steven Berghuis.
Schreuder, who assisted Ten Hag during Ajax’s improbable Champions League semi-final run, succeeded the Haaksbergen-born tactician ahead of this season and is in lockstep with his board regarding the Antony situation while adding they can offer him something the Red Devils are not able to at the moment.

“I want Antony to stay,” he told ESPN.
“I am assuming that the club will not sell him. The money that is being thrown around these days is crazy. But I would not find it okay if we sell another player.
“We are in a powerful position, financially. Yes, my feeling is good. I understand Antony. But you play for Ajax.
“We are playing Champions League football. I don’t think Manchester United are playing Champions League football.”
To date Antony has made 82 appearances for Ajax in all competitions, with seven of those being Champions League matches, subsequently registering 24 goals and creating 22 more. Next up for the Dutch champions is an Eredivisie showdown at FC Utrecht on August 28.
