Alessandro Bastoni explains Tottenham snub
Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni has explained his decision to remain at the San Siro for the upcoming campaign amid reports of early summer interest from Tottenham.
The 23-year-old has been generating plenty of noise for the Nerazzurri after bursting onto the scene in 2018/19 whilst on loan at Parma. Since returning to Milan, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a fully-fledged Italy international and one of Inter’s most important players.
His form in the heart of the club’s famed back-three system has forced plenty of Europe’s leading lights to sit up and take notice of his talents, with Antonio Conte reportedly a fan of the ball-playing defender — and he was thought to have been monitoring his compatriot earlier in the window.

However, Spurs ultimately sought defensive reinforcements elsewhere and captured France international Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona instead, with the 27-year-old coming in alongside Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence to bolster Conte’s wing-back system.
Bastoni has now come forward to pledge his allegiance to Inter, insisting he has no intentions of leaving the club this summer.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I never had the slightest doubt about leaving Inter, here I have everything I need to feel good and express myself at my best.

“I feel great with my teammates, with the club, I adore Milan and so why go elsewhere?
“I am happy to be here, I see myself for many more years with this shirt and, in the meantime, I hope to win a lot more.”
Another player who has been linked with a move away from Inter is Milan Skriniar, who has recently entered the final year of his contract and has been attracting interest from PSG, but Bastoni believes his centre-back team-mate should remain at the San Siro as he encapsulates the culture of the club.
“He embodies the Inter spirit,” Bastoni said. “Milan have grown over the years and we’ve grown with him in the department we’ve built together.
“In addition, he is my best friend in the squad. It would be a real shame if he left us right now, I hope he stays. I think we will still do many great things together.”
