Alaves vs Atletico Madrid build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A 1-1 draw at Osasuna prevented Alaves from making it back-to-back La Liga wins, something they’ve not managed since November 2019, but the result does leave them close to moving into the top half. At home, they’ve been performing reasonably well having lost just once across their previous seven matches heading into the weekend.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have been putting on another defensive masterclass this season, conceding just five goals in 14 games so far and rising to the top of the table with only one defeat. With Real Madrid and Barcelona struggling for any sort of consistency, you’d be a fool to bet against Simeone’s men throwing this lead away.

  • Alaves (vs Osasuna): Pacheco; Navarro, Laguardia, Lejeune, Duarte; Rioja, García, Pina, Méndez; Deyverson, Joselu.
  • Atletico Madrid (vs Getafe): Oblak; Savic, Felipe, Hermoso; Vrsaljko, Llorente, Koke, Lemar, Carrasco; Suarez, Felix.

Rodrigo Ely is out with a Cruciate Ligament rupture for Alaves. Simeone will be without the suspended Kieran Trippier.

Players to watch:

Alaves: Pablo Machin’s side are the fourth-lowest scorers in La Liga with just 14 goals so far, so coming up against a side that has conceded only five times this season feels like a daunting task. If anyone is going to break down that stubborn Simeone backline, you’d wager it’ll be Lucas Perez. The former Arsenal and West Ham man is Alaves’ top scorer so far this season with four goals, with each coming from inside the penalty area, while he’s also chipped in with a team-high two assists. Perez has completed the highest number of dribbles (18) among Alaves players this season, and it’s that trickery that might be key in creating a rare gap in the Atletico rearguard.

Atletico Madrid: Simeone’s defence is quite rightly receiving most of the plaudits for Atletico’s strong start to the season, but a nod must also be given to their forward line, which has scored the third-highest number of goals in La Liga so far. Leading the charge is Luis Suarez, who looked rejuvenated since arriving from title rivals Barcelona in the summer. As he’s aged, Suarez has relied more and more on his physical traits, becoming more of a battering ram than the skilful striker we enjoyed during his Liverpool and Barca days, but that has played out perfectly in Madrid and thus far, only Iago Aspas (9) has scored more than his eight La Liga goals this season — a total he’s managed in just 753 minutes of action. Suarez has five goals and seven assists in seven career appearances against Alaves and his current confidence suggests he’ll extend that record here.
