Ajax vs Go Ahead Eagles build-up & previous line-ups:
Erik ten Hag’s men are still on cloud nine following a historic win at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League; never before had a Dutch team won their opening four group stage matches, and by doing so they’ve booked a place in the knockout stages. Back to domestic matters Ajax come into this latest round of league fixtures heading up the young Eredivisie championship but their lead from second place PSV Eindhoven is just two points. That’s because last time out they were held to a goalless draw at Heracles which means the Amsterdammers have only won three of their previous five top-flight games. So far this season at the Johan Cruyff Arena they’ve played six games winning all but one (0-1 loss to Utrecht) while registering 27 goals and conceding once.
This will be the Eagles from Deventer first visit to Amsterdam since May 2017 when they suffered a 4-0 loss. Across 31 previous visits they’ve returned home with 31 defeats conceding 118 goals and scoring 26 times. Kees van Wonderen’s men come into this latest clash with a semblance of momentum. GAE find themselves sitting in ninth after winning their last three Eredivisie games on the bounce. It’s their longest winning streak in the Dutch top-flight since May 1995 when they put together a six-game winning run. Away from home they’re on a two-game unbeaten run after losing three in a row which includes shipping in five goals at AZ (5-0) and Cambuur (5-2).

Player to watch: Antony (Ajax)
Among the goals in Ajax’s last home league outing was Brazilian forward Antony who dazzled in the Champions League earlier this week. The 21-year-old São Paulo native created each of De Godenzonen‘s three goals in Dortmund which brings his assist tally in Europe’s premier competition to five. His aforementioned strike against PSV was Antony’s third in the Eredivisie this season with all three coming at home. Interestingly, despite the newly minted Seleção international productivity in Europe he’s yet to create a single league goal this season, after eight appearances last season he had created no fewer than two goals while scoring four times.
