Ajax return to Eredivisie action when they host FC Utrecht at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Sunday afternoon (13:30 UK time).
The hosts come into this weekend’s game sitting atop of the young championship table while fifth-place Utrecht seek a first win in Amsterdam since November 2017 when current De Godenzonen boss Erik ten Hag was at the helm.

Ajax vs FC Utrecht build-up & previous line-ups:
There’s no better word to describe Ajax’s start than relentless. Erik ten Hag’s men come into this weekend’s Eredivisie clash with Utrecht having registered 30 goals across their opening seven league matches. At least 22 of those strikes have come in four home games (73.3% of the club’s total output) which also means they’re averaging a goal every 16 minutes. The Amsterdammers also walk into Saturday’s match looking to stretch their unbeaten run at the Johan Cruyff Arena to 16 matches — across this run they’ve only dropped four points (2-2 v PSV and 1-1 v Utrecht).
Not quite matching Ajax stride for stride, it’s been somewhat of a promising start to life in the 2021/22 season for Utrecht, who come into this weekend’s showdown five points behind Ten Hag’s early championship leaders. Utreg have picked up four wins from their opening seven league outings while registering 17 goals, joint third best Eredivisie attack and conceding five times, which means they boast the league’s second best defence. As touched upon the last time Utrecht visited the Dutch capital they frustrated De godenzonen and they’re certainly their biggest test at home so far this campaign.

Player to watch: Dusan Tadic (Ajax)
Very few will argue that Dusan Tadic is not the Eredivisie’s best player. The 32-year-old Serbian forward has been an ever-present for the Dutch champions so far this season and comes into this weekend’s game against Utrecht on the back off netting four goals and creating five more across seven league appearances. Tadic was uncharastically quiet last time out when Ajax ran out 3-0 winners at home against Groningen as he wasn’t involved in any of their goals. It was the fourth occasion this season that has occurred. Nevertheless his next effort will be a landmark one. Having already cleared 100 league assists, Tadic is one strike away from registering a century of Eredivisie goals, meaning he’ll accomplish a feat that hasn’t been achieved for decades.
