Ajax vs AZ build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Heading into this latest round of fixtures Ajax’s lead atop of the Eredivisie table is an impressive 12 points. With no fewer than five matches remaining this season Erik ten Hag’s men can take another major step towards lifting the club’s record-extending 35th national championship. However, the Amsterdammers come into this game seeking a return to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by FC Utrecht earlier in the week, but if they win here — after PSV Eindhoven who played one day earlier and beat FC Groningen — then it’s one step closer to party time in the Dutch capital.
AZ can take inspiration from Utrecht who stifflied the league leaders and they’ve been pretty stellar of late. The side from Alkmaar are currently on a four-game winning streak (which includes a 2-0 win over PSV their rivals for the final Champions League place) subsequently registering nine goals whilst conceding just twice. Away from home the Cheeseheads have won five of their previous six games with the only setback coming at Vitesse (2-1) earlier last month. In fact, that remains AZ’s only defeat on the road this season.
- Ajax (vs Utrecht): Stekelenburg; Rensch, Timber, Martínez, Tagliafico; Kudus, Álvarez, Gravenberch; Neres, Haller, Tadic.
- AZ (vs their previous opponents): Bizot; Svensson, Letschert, Martins Indi, Wijndal; Clasie*, Midtsjö; Stengs, Gudmundsson, Karlsson; Boadu.
Andre Onana (suspended) and Daley Blind (ankle) are the only players missing for Ajax this weekend. As for AZ they are without Jordy Clasie and Pantelis Hatzidiakos (knee) when visiting the nation’s capital.

Player to watch: Dusan Tadic (Ajax)
It’s been another strong campaign for Ajax skipper Dusan Tadic who is seeking yet another ‘top assist maker’ award. The 32-year-old Serbian playmaker has created 13 goals heading into this weekend’s game. This output currently makes him the Eredivisie’s most creative player. Aside from setting up his teammates Tadic continues to be a goalscoring threat and with his 14 strikes he’s one of two players in the Netherlands top division — alongside Feyenoord counterpart Steven Berghuis — to reach double figures regarding goals and assists. As things currently stand Tadic needs to create two more goals to match his best return for Ajax which he managed in the 2019/20 season.
